This month, Tradesman Saver has teamed up with the Sustainability Yard app to help you make the most of the materials you don’t use.
Sustainability Yard is nearing 10,000 users across the UK (growing daily) – we are a marketplace for anyone in construction or lovers of DIY to buy and sell building materials in an attempt to prevent them from going to landfill.
It’s no secret that building materials cost a fortune these days, so do skips and lock ups…everywhere you look there are costs!
Who is using the app?
Tradespeople, developers, contractors, house builders, housing associations, DIY enthusiasts…anyone who has a need for building materials!
What sort of materials are being bought and sold?
Bricks, timber, roofing materials, insulation, kitchen and bathroom items, tools, decking, lighting, catnics and lintels, doors, fencing, paint, plastics, PPE…the list goes on.
Why was Sustainability Yard started?
Coming from a property development background myself, I was acutely aware of the sustainability issues that surround the construction industry and its waste materials.
No matter the size of the job, there are always materials left over and with the best will in the world, those reusable (and expensive) materials either get slung in an expensive skip or put in an expensive lockup, never to be seen again.
We want to stop those materials from going to landfill and we want to stop you having to pay to have them taken away or stored.
Why not make some money back on them or pick up good quality materials for a fraction of the price you would normally have to pay at the merchants?
We estimate that we have already stopped over 160 tonnes of reusable building materials from going to landfill which we are really proud of and we want to see that figure grow as quickly as possible.
One of our users actually bought enough insulation from a developer, building 10 units out a few streets away from his house, to complete a home extension!
How it works
If you see some materials you need/like the look of, simply hit “contact seller” and open up a live chat with the user who is selling the items. Arrange a time and date to meet along with method of payment and you are all done!
If you are looking to sell materials that you have left over or are storing and will never use, simply take some pictures of the materials you want to sell and upload them to the platform in less than 60 seconds.
It’s likely there will be multiple users in your area who are looking for something you list…even my dad has sold things on the app!!
