 Working with businesses like yours for the past decade, we’ve been asked by tradesman over the UK almost every question under the sun about our insurance policies. To make things a little easier, we’ve put together all of these questions into an FAQ, to ensure you get all the information you need when taking our your insurance with us.

What is Financial Loss insurance?

Financial loss insurance provides protection in the event that a customer suffers financial loss not caused by injury or property damage. Any financial loss arising out of injury or property damage would be covered under the public liability section of your policy. Will I be covered to work outside the UK?

Our Tradesman Saver insurance policies automatically provide liability cover for temporary visits abroad of up to 14 days. Our cover is provided on a worldwide basis, excluding the USA and Canada. So, if you decide to take up some work over a holiday, or if you’re wanting to work on a short project in another country, for example, you’ll be automatically covered.

Can I pay my premium in instalments?

Of course! At Tradesman Saver, we know that paying your insurance premium in manageable monthly instalments can really improve your business’ cashflow. Provided your premium is more than £125, we offer a monthly instalment plan at a very competitive rate.

Are you authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority?

Yes, Tradesman Saver is a product of Henry Seymour & Co (Barkdene Ltd) which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.

What if my trade is not listed or is slightly different to your listed trade?

In instances where your trade isn’t listed or is slightly different to our listed trade, please contact us – we’ll probably be able to insure you!

Who will I be insured with?

All of our Tradesman Saver insurance policies are provided by Covea Insurance, who have more than 50 years trading experience in the UK. Covea Insurance UK is part of the Covea Group – the number one property and liability insurer in France. It has been awarded an AA- stable rating by Standard and Poor’s for its financial strength and ability to meet ongoing financial commitments.

How many employees can I insure under the Tradesman Saver policy?

Our Tradesman Saver insurance policies are designed for a maximum of 10 employees, including working partners and clerical staff. Should you need to insure more than this amount of employees, please contact us directly and we can arrange this for you.

What is Public Liability insurance?

Public liability insurance provides protection against your legal liability for injury and damage to third parties and their property, as a result of your business activities. To read more about what it covers, please visit our public liability insurance page.

What is Products Liability insurance?

Products liability insurance provides protection against your legal liability, compensation costs and expenses following an injury by goods you’ve sold, supplied, repaired, tested or delivered in connection with your business. What is Employers’ Liability insurance?

Employer’s liability insurance provides protection against your legal liabilities to pay compensation in event of injury or illness suffered by your employees in the course of your business activities. To learn more about this cover, please visit our employer’s liability insurance page.

What is Legal Expenses insurance?

Legal expenses insurance provides cover for your legal costs and expenses for a wide variety of legal problems you may face that are not usually covered by a business insurance policy. These include:

  • Defence of employment disputes and payment of compensation awards
  • Representation for tax investigations and VAT assesments
  • Pursuit of property disputes
  • Defence of prosecutions relating to compliance and regulation
  • Employees extra protection defence

Can I insure my tools?

Yes, of course! We can cover up to £5,000 for each staff member for damage to tools and business equipment whilst away from your home address. This can be added onto any Tradesman Saver public liability policy for an additional fee.

Please note, as an optional cover, we cannot insure tools separately – our tools & equipment insurance is only available where a Tradesman Saver public liability policy has been purchased.

Can I insure my business contents?

Yes, we can. We can cover up to £20,000 for damage to business contents stored at your home address.

What is Contract Works insurance?

Contract works (otherwise known as contractor’s all risks) insurance covers loss, or damage to ongoing works on a construction site for which you are responsible. It includes cover for damage to materials used in conjunction with the contract. For further information, please visit our contract works insurance or contractor’s all risks insurance pages.

Do you provide cover for my plant and tools?

Yes, we do! By selecting contractor’s all risks insurance, which includes contract works cover, you will automatically get cover for all construction plant, tools and equipment used in connection with the business. You’ll need to select the limit required and cover will be subject to a limit of £5,000 for any one item of own plant. You Can also select cover for your tools and business equipment up to a maximum of £5,000.

Please note, as an optional cover, we cannot provide contractor’s all risks insurance or contract works insurance separately – our covers are only available in situations where a Tradesman Saver public liability policy has been purchased.

Can you insure any hired in plant?

Yes. By selecting contractor’s all risks insurance, which includes contract works cover, you automatically get cover for hired-in property up to a specified limit. Cover is based on a maximum limit of £50,000 for any one item of hired-in plant. You’ll also get cover for continuing hiring charges, for which you’re liable following damage to hired-in property. Cover is provided up to a specified limit. If you’d like to know more about this cover, please visit our plant & machinery insurance page.

Please note, as an optional cover, we cannot provide contractor’s all risks insurance or contract works insurance separately – our covers are only available in situations where a Tradesman Saver public liability policy has been purchased.

Do you provide cover for temporary buildings?

Absolutely. By selecting contractor’s all risks insurance, which includes contract works cover, you’ll automatically get cover for any temporary buildings used in connection with the contract (excluding hired-in property. The cover includes all fixtures and fittings and is based on standard limits dependent on the maximum contract value.

Please note, as an optional cover, we cannot provide contractor’s all risks insurance or contract works insurance separately – our covers are only available in situations where a Tradesman Saver public liability policy has been purchased.

Will my tools be covered in my van?

Yes, they will. We include theft cover from an unattended vehicle, providing the property is kept out of sight and your vehicle is locked at the time of the loss, with all windows closed and keys removed. The excess in respect to this section is £250.
