Tradesmen step in to complete work for FREE after dodgy builder takes money from family and runs.
A cowboy builder has finally been jailed after leaving families £95,000 out of pocket, and a young disabled boy relying on the help of volunteers to complete his dream extension.
Jonathan Ross Bell took money from multiple customers and failed to complete work, taking thousands from a couple who employed Jonathan to build an extension for their 11-year-old, disabled son. Jonathan left his work incomplete and not up to standards. The family from Dudley were later approached by tradesman who volunteered to do the work for free after reading about the families struggles in the local newspaper.
45-year-old Jonathan has now been jailed for 18 months. Recorder, Tony Hawks told him: “You were, in my judgement, taking money from members of the public and promising to carry out work for them when you knew, or must have known, there was no realistic prospect of that ever occurring. The people who have suffered at your hands are ordinary, decent people, some of whom say they chose to employ you because they wanted to employ what they thought were local, reputable firms.”
While cowboy builders like these really make our blood boil, it’s lovely to see kind-hearted, honest tradesmen step in to help pick up the pieces when a family needs help.
