60 Tradesman gathered during Storm Emma to give a sick 2 year old girl the home she deserved
The 60 Tradesman worked relentlessly nonstop for 8 days to help transform the home of Sadie Jenkins and her family from Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire.
Sadie was born with a various range of complications and had to spend the first 10 months of her life in hospital. Upon being sent home, Sadie had to use a tube to help her breathe and had to sleep in a makeshift bedroom in the front room.
“Band of Builders’ – an organisation which helps tradesman in need – sought to help transform the home. Adding a downstairs toilet for Sadie’s carers to use, as well as transforming Sadie’s sisters bedroom, the builders also worked on installing a new boiler, landscaping the family garden and paying for the family to visit Centre Parcs (the family’s first holiday) while the work was being carried out.
The project was hit with difficulties when storm Emma hit the UK, bringing the country to a standstill has it struggled to cope with below zero temperatures, however the weather did not deter the tradesman who used blowtorches to defrost the ground and helped grit roads to keep deliveries coming through.
Both Sadie’s mother Nicola, and father Carl, were overwhelmed with the generosity of the builders and could not contain their emotions upon returning home to see the hard work
‘I wanted to shake everyone’s hand and cuddle everyone but there were just so many people. The fact they have given up a week’s wages to come here, especially with this weather, means so much.Thank you is just nowhere near enough.” Said mother Sadie.
