New Year’s Resolutions for Tradespeople

As 2023 draws to a close, it’s time to reflect on the year gone by and set some targets for personal and professional growth in the 12 months ahead.

Why not ring in 2024 by making one or two New Year’s resolutions to develop your skills, expand your business, or simply take better care of yourself?

Upskilling Opportunities

The construction industry never stands still for long, with new methods, materials and regulations constantly emerging. Make it your resolution to keep pace by dedicating time each month to building your knowledge.

Consider signing up for refresher courses, online tutorials, masterclasses or accredited qualifications related to your trade. Investing in your own skills shows clients you care about delivering the best possible service using up-to-date practices.

Securing New Customers

Rather than waiting for the phone to ring, resolve to be more proactive in promoting your services in 2024. With Britain facing a trades skills shortage, this is the perfect time to get your name out there.

Update your website, create social media accounts showcasing past projects, distribute leaflets locally, attend networking events and  offer loyalty discounts to existing customers who recommend you. Try out a combination of techniques to generate new leads.

Healthier Habits

Let’s face it, trades work often involves long hours and physically strenuous activity. It’s no wonder that 56% of safety representatives in construction reported a rise in mental health issues in the past year.

In 2024, prioritise taking better care of yourself, whether that means scheduling proper lunch breaks, joining a gym, getting more sleep, cutting down on the beer and takeaways, or simply taking the weekend off. You’ll reap rewards in both job satisfaction and life enjoyment.
