Research reveals house buyers are TWICE as likely to be happier with homes built by smaller building companies than large businesses.
FMB’s (The Federation of Master Builders) most recent survey showed that 36% of home owners whose houses were built by small and medium-sized building companies were “very satisfied” with the quality of their new home, compared to that of just 17% of home owners who had their houses built by major building companies.
Chief executive, Brian Berry from FMB, wants the survey to highlight the high quality small and medium sized companies deliver in their builds, saying that the popular misconception that newly built homes by smaller companies are of poor quality is “immensely frustrating” to the builders.
“Our research shows that you are twice as likely to be ‘very satisfied’ with the quality of your new home if it was built by an SME house-builder as opposed to one of the large top 20 firms,” he says.
He notes that the image of the house-building sector needs to improve by making sure quality is at the heart of every project, no matter the size of the company – not only will this entice new buyers from the younger generation but will also offer prospects of new developments from planning committees, which is key to solving the “serious housing crisis” we are in the midst of.
