Introducing Build A Career!
The industry has changed and organisations must show their support for social value and corporate social responsibility initiatives. These include supporting local communities, encouraging diversity among the workforce and supporting socially disadvantaged individuals into work.
As an award-winning organisation with Investors in People Platinum status and finalists for multiple for Equality, Inclusion and Diversity, Build a Career helps employers hire more inclusively through multiple purpose-driven recruitment initiatives.
We work with:
- ex-offenders
- refugees
- release on temporary licence candidates
- care leavers
- service leavers
- apprenticeships and much more to support clients with the delivery of skills, employment and CSR KPIs.
Our work is not only helping bridge the skills gap in the UK but is also changing lives of the candidates we work with by helping them find an opportunity to start over.
People who face barriers to employment are sometimes cautious not to be searchable on social media and when many hiring managers rely on that as a screening tool it can be almost impossible to form the right networks needed to get a job. However, through strategic partners we have aligned ourselves with, we have access to vast pools of talent and are able to provide guidance to both the candidate and hiring managers to ensure a smooth recruitment process.
Having a job offers independence and financial self-sufficiency, which is so important for those who are starting afresh.
Meet Sarah – Release On Temporary Licence Candidate
Sarah (not actual name) started off as a cleaner at Wates Group last year. Through her hard work, within a period of only 6 months Sarah got her CSCS card, SMSTS and Fire Marshall certification and was also promoted to Assistant Site Engineer proving the resilience and determination of ex-offenders.
Through this initiative, Sarah was able to find a sustainable job which she quickly grew to love and most importantly was able to win back the custody of her children.
As she puts it herself:
“For my personal journey, it’s helped me re-settle back into normal life but not only that it’s also given me a new career. Just because someone’s made a mistake, doesn’t mean they are a bad person. I’ve made a mistake and proven myself by putting it all back into my work”
Sarah is a success story. There are thousands of potential employees, trainees, and skilled operatives ready to follow her path. This is just one initiative that we support and facilitate across the construction industry.
Meet Derek – Release On Temporary Licence Candidate
Derek (not actual name) also a ROTL candidate got a job offer at Volker Fitzpatrick and within a short time only, he was able to get his CSCS card and Telehandler, Dumper and Roller tickets and ever since his employment things have been very positive for him.
“Everything is going ahead for me when I get released; I have money, a future in construction. [Being] at work helped me rehabilitate back into the community instead of just getting straight out of [prison]”
