A 19 year old will represent the UK at the WorldSkills Finals in Russia
The teenager from Birmingham took place in an intense three-day practical competition that saw him install a small central heating system along with a hot/cold water installation within a strict timeframe.
Matthew Barton was selected for the ‘Team UK squad’ after he won bronze at the WorldSkills UK Finals. “I really enjoyed my Worldskills experience,” he said. “It was a fantastic way for me to demonstrate my skills and I am more than happy to receive bronze.”
The WorldSkills UK Finals belong to The Skills Show event which is the UK’s largest skills and careers event, attracting almost 80,000 people it is the place to witness talented young tradesmen and women.

John Ladell, plumbing lecturer at Kendal College, said: “This is an outstanding achievement for our relatively small construction department to have students competing at the highest level. Our staff thrive to produce the highest quality tradesmen and women and Matthew’s success proves again how Kendal College continues to punch above its weight. We all want to congratulate Matthew and wish him good luck in the final stages of the selection process.”
