Tradesman Saver’s Public Liability Cover For House Builders
Our standard cover is:
- £1 million cover for public and products liability (with an option to increase to £2 million or £5 million)
- £10,000 cover for any financial loss (£50K cover optional)
- Worldwide liability cover for temporary work abroad for up to 14 days (excluding the USA and Canada)
Public liability insurance is essential for home builders, as this covers you if your work causes property damage or injures a member of the public. If a passerby is hit by a falling brick, or you smash a car window with your ladder, public liability ensures your business won’t have to pay for any legal action taken against you. Claims like this can cause a small fortune, but we spare you the financial burden by covering them on your behalf.
When you take out public liability with Tradesman Saver, you automatically receive a number of additional covers as part of our standard insurance package. This includes financial loss, which you can claim if a third party loses money due to your business activities. For example, if you make a mistake that means the house won’t be completed on time, financial loss insurance covers you for any funds the client will lose as a result of the delay. You’ll also be insured for up to £250,000 worth of legal expenses, and be covered for product liability and accidental death insurance. The latter is crucial if the worst happens and you or a member of your team are killed on site.
Other relevant insurance policies for home builders include employer’s liability, which is a legal requirement for anybody who employs staff, and contractors all risk insurance, protecting you against physical damage to buildings, materials, tools and equipment. Here at Tradesman Saver, we provide all the coverage you may need as a home builder, and you can get your online quote in minutes.
Our insurance is designed for House Builders who construct homes for other people – we are unable to cover “self-builds” under the Tradesman Saver insurance policy

What is house builders insurance?
Whether you’re constructing a luxury detached property or a large-scale housing estate, building a home for someone else is always a risky project. Working with heavy materials and potentially dangerous equipment means disaster could strike at any moment, which is why it’s a good idea to be prepared for things that could go wrong on site. Here at Tradesman Saver, we offer protection with our comprehensive home builders insurance, a dedicated policy covering you against all the unexpected accidents you could face on the job.
Why do you need house builders insurance?
There are many reasons why you, as a house builder, might need to be insured. Your company could be liable if any accidents happen on the building site, like somebody tripping over a toolbox and injuring themselves. What’s more, you may also be held responsible for any issues that arise once the job is complete. For instance, if a mistake during construction means the house doesn’t meet living standards, you might have to pay to fix the damage. To protect your business’s finances from any hefty claims, use our free home builders insurance quote to quickly create a personalised policy.

Home Builders Insurance: Frequently Asked Questions
Here at Tradesman Saver, we don’t offer home building insurance as one predetermined policy. Instead, we allow you to mix and match different covers to create a personalised insurance package perfectly tailored to your business. All customers receive public liability, product liability, financial loss, legal expenses and accidental death insurance with any Tradesman Saver package. It’s then up to you whether you add any useful optional covers like business contents insurance or income protection as well.
It’s vital that you activate your Tradesman Saver home builders insurance before you begin a job, as you won’t be covered for any accidents that happen prior to your policy’s start date. This cover is usually arranged on a twelve-month basis, but it’s easy to extend this if construction is likely to take longer than a year.
Home builders insurance with Tradesman Saver can be activated from just under £59 a year, however, the price depends on a number of other factors. The size of your clients, the length of your jobs, how many claims you’ve had in the past, and the amount of coverage you desire will all affect the policy’s final cost.
Examples of Home Builders Insurance Claims
Understanding exactly how your home builders insurance protects you can really help you reap the advantages of your policy. We’ve outlined some examples below, demonstrating how certain covers will benefit you on particular occasions:
Clumsy pedestrians
You’re building a new house for a client, and have temporarily left some building materials outside the construction site while you deal with an emergency. Unfortunately, a passerby walking on the pavement is glued to their phone, so they don’t notice the materials and fall over them. They sustain an injury and decide to seek compensation from you. In this case, your public liability insurance covers the costs of the claim, so you can remain focused on building the house.
Stolen tools
You leave your tools on the construction site one night, but when you return to the site to continue building the home, you realise everything has been stolen. Luckily, tools & equipment insurance will save your bacon here. As we will cover the costs of replacing your missing tools, you won’t end up paying for someone else’s greediness.
