Rated People meets the changing needs of trades businesses

How Rated People helps tradespeople grow

Rated People is the UK’s leading online marketplace, matching skilled tradespeople with over 50,000 homeowners each month who need their expertise. Through their unique service, tradespeople can spend less time looking for customers, and more time doing the work they love.

Their service is designed to meet and flex to the changing needs of trades businesses, with tradespeople across over 30 trades using Rated People to build their online presence, grow their reputation and find new customers whenever it suits them. They also offer added freedom and control through a range of new flexible plans tailored to the individual needs of the tradespeople they work with.

Rated People pride themselves in championing a diverse trades workforce, and recently launched their biggest marketing campaign yet across TV, radio, billboards and social media, reaching thousands of homeowners across the UK. Their message was a simple one: ‘if you’ve got the skills, we’ve got the jobs,’ regardless of gender, ethnicity or sexual orientation.

How does the service work?

Rated People focus on helping tradespeople find new work in their local area. Once you sign up, you get to choose which leads (jobs posted by homeowners on their platform) you’re interested in, and which match your trade and skills. When new leads come in that align with what you’re looking for, these get added to your Live Leads list. From here, you’ll get instant access to the ones you choose to give quotes for by paying to receive homeowner contact details.

There are plenty of ways you can speak to homeowners to give quotes for jobs on Rated People. Pick up the phone and ring them, use their Chat feature, or send them an email to get in touch. Once you make a good impression and they hire you, you can arrange to complete the work – it’s as easy as that!

In other words, on Rated People you pay for the work you want, when you want it.

Why are Rated People better than directory only services?

What makes Rated People stand out is their commitment to meeting the changing needs of trades businesses. Unlike directory only listings services, you won’t have to sit back waiting for the phone to ring. You can take a proactive approach to securing work by calling up clients you’re interested in working with. But, if you do want direct phone calls, you can get them with their directory add-on.

All tradespeople on Rated People have profile pages, which are like personal websites and feature lots of information about the trades business for potential customers to read. This includes the ratings they’ve received from past homeowners. Different to big directory services, they make their rating system as fair as possible by first identifying any initial off-platform ratings (which they accept to help a tradesperson get started) and then only allowing homeowners that have hired a tradesperson through them to leave a rating and review.

Is signing up to Rated People worth it?

By joining the service, you’ll benefit from access to new job leads, where you’re in control of the leads you buy, when you need them and how much you spend. With flexible membership plans, Rated People allow you to avoid parting with big sums of money upfront too. You choose how many job leads you want access to, with tailored plans that match the actual amount you will realistically spend on leads.

By only allowing up to three tradespeople to buy a lead (and with over 75,000 leads a month on the platform), on average a homeowner will receive one or two quotes for a job. This means you’ll have less competition and faster hiring times, ramping up your chances of winning work quickly and consistently.

On top of this, your profile page will have inbuilt search engine optimisation (SEO), meaning homeowners are more likely to find your profile when searching on Google for your trade in their local area. And if managing your business on the go sounds appealing, their Trades app allows you to do that, and comes with a Lead Tracker tool to manage the status of job leads and reduce your paperwork.

Lastly, Rated People protect trades businesses by teaming up with Shieldpay, an FCA-regulated financial service company, to offer the option of Protected Payments. This can give peace of mind when it comes to getting paid for work.
